When I was a little girl and heading off on my annual holiday from Scotland to Ireland - a large trunk was packed weeks before with all the family's summer clothes and our blue and white rubber beach ball (flattened of course) and our "wellies" just in case. This trunk was picked up by a carrier and by train and boat was sitting in our hotel rooms in Portrush when we arrived. the family then only carried enough luggage for an overnight stay on the boat from Stranraer to Larne! Very sensible arrangement.
I am at the moment trying to pack a suitcase to weigh not more than 20kg with clothes for various climates plus a plethora of pharmacy wears to ensure I don't come down with anything nasty!!!! I really need a separate case for the Handgel, paper tissues, pills in case my stomach can't cope with Yak stew, inhaler in case I get asthma, sun screen, a toilet roll (Asian toilets!!),a small travelling first aid kit, and so the list goes on. I will repack again tomorrow - think I will take T-shirts that can be left behind so that I can bring back "stuff"- this seems the way to solve the problem of keeping within the weight limit, of course, I could wear layers......

Coutdown!
Two weeks and one day until I head off into into the blue (or grey).
My Grandson and I (he deserves a capital letter as he is writing this blog for me at the moment) were watching the news last night and we are really sorry for all those caught up in the dreadful earthquake in China.
On a happier note, I am very thankful that my trip does not take me into that area.
I have a funky sister who live thousands of miles away from me in the northern hemisphere. Unfortunately, China is not on her travel itinerary this year - she's heading for Nepal.
Oh! By the way, I will be in Korea in October, so stay posted on this blog.
In between trips, I discover new places in my own area in NZ on my Harley with a GPS(do I really have a Harley or is it all in my mind?).

Funky Granny Welcomes You!
Hiya, Funky Granny here, and I want to welcome you to my world of travel.
Travel does not always mean passport's, insect repellent, extra strong sun cream- sometimes it just means clambering onto that rusty old bicycle belonging to your grandson (who left it months ago in your garden promising of course to collect it) and pedalling like mad to escape from family dinners, where blackberries rule and mobile phones drive you nuts.
However, this granny can't ride a rusty bike without falling off. So fans, (I hope to have some) I am heading off to China.
YAY!!!
I am totally (medically) prepared for my trip i.e diarrhea/laxative tabs, masks, toilet paper, vicks vapor rub, antibiotics and what not.
I am considering a gps for my Harley just in case something goes wrong while motorcycling over the great wall.
Well bunnies, stay tuned as there is lots to come.
